I love to dance and coreograph espically ballet. I want to persue it as a career, but where I live no one will hire you without a degree. I’m 20 years old and have been dancing on and off for 14 years.
I’m ready to start college, I just don’t know what to major in to get the degree I need to pursue ballet as a career.

I want to try out so many styles of dance…but I can’t pick!
I’m taking ballet and hip hop right now and possibly pointe too! I hope to take up contemerary, lyrical (maybe), and/or jazz. Thanks, your answers so far are awesome, alot of help!
And, I’ve heard so many people say they hate ballet, is that because it’s hard? Because I absolutely love it!

body type dance question?

HEY! I am currently 14 years old (will be 15 in Jan.) and am wondering about dance as a sport.
(yes, sport :) )

I have about 6 years of experience in about every type of dance (from ballet and bellydance to flamenco!) from the age of about 4 to 10.

I have been swimming (very flexible, both splits, good shape) and have decided that I want to dance again.
Idk if it matters but I am rather thin and tall as well. 110 lbs and almost 5 foot 8.

I am open to new ideas of a cool dance type, like lyrical, partners or not.

I have always loved ballet but I think I’m too tall :( and I don’t know if I should try that again.
I want to try to audition for the Washington School of Ballet ( http://www.washingtonballet.org/the-school/ )
but I think that they are very serious (I am too, just not ballet as a career! ) and I may be too tall. Should I do any training this summer before trying out for any types of dance?
Does anyone have any good ideas for fun types of serious dance?

Oh, and also, what type of dance is this and are there any limitations to the dancers?
(skip around to see the type, I guess)
(I think it looks like lyrical but I’m not sure!!!)
(Also, how long does it take, with hard training, to be as good as the lead girl? The black one. Shes my friend. I promise I’m not racist!)
Please comment if you can’t see the vid! I will try to post a new link in "additional details" asap so please check back!

dance as a career … help?

okay so dance is my passion and i absolutely love it ( specifically ballet and contemporary) however my parents dont see it as a career. do u get paid in a compony? my parents want me to be able to support myself and go to college majoring in business. that sounds good but i want to dance :) howeer i do want to make money and be successful and i am aware that the world of dance is very difficult to get into and become professional ( its so competitive) what should i do ? how can i a profession out of dance? and still be successful ?
owning a studio is a great idea :) but i feel thats more for retired dancers (something to do when im older) right now i want to be the one dancing :)

Where can I learn dancing online?

Just some simple tutorials. I like hiphop, popish kind of dances. Im not sure how to describe.

Thanks
Eh. I just want to learn something as a starting point.
I’ve done ballet for 6 years. :D

I’m trying to remember a term, first used by a boxing announcer I think during the early 1930’s. Its two words, and has something to do with dancing (like waltz or ballet..something like that), If anyone knows, speak up!

What are the dance programs at NYU like?

Hi! I’m a freshman in highschool and i want to open my own dance studio after college. I’ll obviously need a dance degree so i was looking into NYU and their dance program. I take jazz, tap, ballet, and pointe. The only problem is that i’m not intensly into ballet and I haven’t been dancing since i was like a baby. I wanted to know if NYU had any other dance programs besides Tish. Or if they’re are any other good schools that have a dance program thats not just strictly ballet. (i want to try and stay in New York) Thankss!! =]

beginning ballet and jazz?

I am definitely more of a free spirit when it comes to dancing, i am in 2 hip hop classes and one creative movement.
I want to start ballet, but i can’t be serious like that. i plan on becoming a choreographer as a career so i want to enhance my skill and engage in as much different kind of dance as i can.
all though i have been dancing for the majority of my 15 years of living… i am not very flexible, and i get intimidated by the ballerinas at my dance studio.
But i want to start, i just need some advice i guess. and i dont know where to find a beginning class for people my age!

i have been dancing ballet for a while and now i am starting ballroom. Should i take all ballroom or just latin?
