body type dance question?

HEY! I am currently 14 years old (will be 15 in Jan.) and am wondering about dance as a sport.
(yes, sport :) )

I have about 6 years of experience in about every type of dance (from ballet and bellydance to flamenco!) from the age of about 4 to 10.

I have been swimming (very flexible, both splits, good shape) and have decided that I want to dance again.
Idk if it matters but I am rather thin and tall as well. 110 lbs and almost 5 foot 8.

I am open to new ideas of a cool dance type, like lyrical, partners or not.

I have always loved ballet but I think I’m too tall :( and I don’t know if I should try that again.
I want to try to audition for the Washington School of Ballet ( http://www.washingtonballet.org/the-school/ )
but I think that they are very serious (I am too, just not ballet as a career! ) and I may be too tall. Should I do any training this summer before trying out for any types of dance?
Does anyone have any good ideas for fun types of serious dance?

Oh, and also, what type of dance is this and are there any limitations to the dancers?
(skip around to see the type, I guess)
(I think it looks like lyrical but I’m not sure!!!)
(Also, how long does it take, with hard training, to be as good as the lead girl? The black one. Shes my friend. I promise I’m not racist!)
Please comment if you can’t see the vid! I will try to post a new link in "additional details" asap so please check back!

the question I pose to all of you P&S people today is: Am I the only one here that doesn’t enjoy a slow dance?
I never have. I’ve only slow danced, in public, once and it was just uncomfortable for me.

I love dance. My main genres are jazz and contemporary.
But I’m up for just about anything else.
Even though I doubt that I’ll end up doing Dance as my career,
I want to stick with it at least through college.

Basically, my dream school would be:

In New York City. (I live right outside of the city. I love it. And almost anywhere north of the city is freezing!!)

40%-70% acceptance rate. (Please don’t suggest Columbia. Or NYU. My grades aren’t good enough. I get B’s. Not A’s.)

Great teachers.
Good arts program, but not a school thats ALL about the Arts. (Im going to college to decide what I want to do. Im not all set on dance. & I will probably take dance classes off campus anyway.)

And I guess I dont really mind if its a commuter campus. Id prefer a dorm, so it would be less of a hassle taking the train everyday (and i don’t want to live with my dad for the rest of my life!), but either way I guess is fine because I cant afford my own place in the city yet.

Collegeboard.com wasn’t helpful. And I hate my guidance counseler…

I doubt any such a school exists.
But if anyone has suggestions, or if anyone from Manhattan College can tell me about the Dance program there (Im considering applying)… It would be much appreciated!

Is it ok for kids to learn pole dancing?

A fitness instructor in Texas wants to give kids pole dancing lessons, because it is good exercise.
Here is the article:

It’s in England, not Texas. My mistake.

where can i learn how to dance R&B?

does anybody know where i can learn how to dance R&B music or any website that teaches it step by step…do they teach it in college?

I think i’d pick dance. I think apart from video games, dance (Hip Hop) is my favorite past time. As you can see the three major artforms & senses are covered–seers (painters/artists), doers (dancers), hearers (musicians)

How to industrial dance?

I really want to learn how to do industrial dance like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRCoJC08hIY&feature=related i can try imitating but its kinda hard to keep up i dont personally know anyone who does this is there a website or something that teaches you?

Im doing a solo in a Dance Competition?

yea, i am doing a hip hop’y and very energy pumping type dance…. they mark for Cheoreography, Originality, Pathways, Timing, Enjoyment and those stuff..you know

So what i am worried about is this, there will be solo dances, group dances, and different styles of music (pop, r &b, etc). how will they judge? there are so many types!!

I think group dances will be cooler than solo dances….i am doing a solo. is there anything i can do to catch the judges’ attention?

Help!

Mine is really energetic…
